School for us didn't start until August 26th! It was about 2 weeks overdue in my opinion! We were all more than ready by the time it rolled around.
Tyler and Bryce asked me towards the end of the school year last year when they could be in the same class. The more I thought about it, the more I thought it sounded like a good idea this year, especially with a new baby on the way. I need all the simplicity in my life I can get. The same homework, spelling words, days that they have "specials" and being able to spend time volunteering in one classroom instead of feeling split between two really appealed to me!
We met their new teacher, Mrs. Trapp, at Back to School Night on the 22nd. She really impressed me. She knew that the boys went by their middle names, clarified that they had been in different classes before this and this was the first time they were going to be in the same class, and even let them sit next to each other at their desks. She has been teaching for over 20 years, and has spent the last 12 teaching second grade at West Canyon. We felt really good about her and are looking forward to a great year of second grade!
The kids each received Father's Blessings the night before school started. They were all given such different counsel that was unique to each one of them. I sure am grateful to have a husband who worthily holds the priesthood and is able to bless our family through it. Afterwards, we made sure the kids laid out their outfits for school the next day, had their backpacks packed with all the new school supplies, and tried to go to sleep despite the excitement and jitters.
Everyone was up bright and early the next morning! The boys were so excited, they could hardly stand it. They ate a quick "snack" (they're served breakfast at school so we just give them toast, a piece of fruit, or something like that to tide them over until they get off the bus).
