On August 13, Marc competed in Emmett's Most Excellent Triathlon.
We got everyone out of the house early, ate breakfast on the road and arrived with plenty of time to pick up Marc's packet and let him get out all of his pre-race jitters. The kids were content in the beginning. They got really nervous for Marc that he missed his race because the other swimmers (the people competing in the Olympic distance) had already started. We found a sand volleyball court as we were waiting for Marc to finish and that helped keep them a little happier while we waited.
Here he is getting out of the water. He had a rough swim. Kept getting kicked, punched, and took on a lot of water. He could never settle down into a nice steady rhythm and that is exhausting!
He couldn't get his wetsuit off, so his transition time was pretty slow, but he made up for it on the bike.
The police made everyone who parked up at the reservoir take the long/dirt road all the way up and around the reservoir, so we missed Marc coming in off his bike which was pretty adventurous. He hit a patch of loose gravel as he was turning and his bike tire spun out and he nearly crashed. He had just taken his feet out of his shoes to prepare for transition, and if he hadn't, he would have completely wiped out.
We got there just in time to watch him coming in off the run:
A quick shot after the race:
These are some of his training friends from Caldwell. They all did really well and had a lot of success in the race!
And the biggest surprise was that Marc placed 2nd in his age division!! He got a medal and a running hat which was totally unexpected! We were really excited for him.
Nice job babe! You rocked it!
