Spider Sandwich Event

Lexi's school doesn't do "parties". Kids are welcome to bring a treat to share with the class on their birthdays, but they don't take time out to hold a party. The Friday before "Fall Break", Lexi's teacher had a "Spider Sandwhich Event". The kids had been studying arachnids. For weeks, they knew there was going to be a spider sandwich, Lexi told me over and over again she was NOT going to eat the spider sandwich. So, parents were invited to the event. Each of the kids made little spider headbands. They were encouraged to wear black to look like a spider (we opted for the spider shirt instead). We got to sit down with our Kindergartner while they taught us about the anatomy of an arachnid. Then, each of the kids was given a ding dong, cookie, licorice legs, and chocolate balls for the eyes. Lexi quickly changed her mind about not eating the sandwich. Isabel kept trying to dig her fingers into it, or push her way into the other kids spots. It was fun to be there. I love the faces she pulled off for me as I tried to take pictures:
