Kids' Well Check Up's

I got appointments for all 3 kids to go see the doctor at the same time for their well check-ups.. We ate lunch in the car as we drove into Boise. When we got there, I was overloaded with updating paperwork, but finally muddled my way through it. They did a vision test for all 3 kids, then a hearing test for the boys.(Happy to say they all passed this year!) Then they got to be weighed and measured. Lexi has grown 4 inches this year! She's 38" tall (70%) and 33.4 lbs (75%). Both Bryce and Tyler grew about 2.5 inches. Bryce is up to 46.5" (75%), and holding steady at 45.2 lbs (50%). Tyler is 46" tall (60%), and 50.8 lbs (75%). His weight percentile as finally gone down from the upper 90's. We've really tried to monitor his portion sizes and encourage more exercise, and its nice to see that reflected. 

I was a proud momma as we went through the exams. The kids were all so polite and well-behaved. Even though Lexi was really nervous about going and scared about getting shots, she watched her brothers good examples and was very cooperative. The doctor gives them books when he comes in, and about half way through the exam Lexi looked up and very sincerely said "Thank you for the book Dr. Kiehl". He was caught a little off guard, and it just made me smile. I have great kids! Everything was smooth sailing except for when he was examining Tyler, and noticed his groin was swollen on one side, and there was a lot of fluid where it isn't supposed to be. He's got what's called a hydrocele problem, where fluid is going back and forth between his abdomen and testicle causing a lot of swelling. He gets to have surgery to have it corrected, poor kid. None of the kids had to have shots, so that definitely ended the appointment on a high note. We got to go play at their cousins' house for a little while afterwards, and watched the cubscouts race their pinewood derby cars later that night. It's days like this one that make it seem like a pat on the back that I'm doing the right things with my kids. It was subtle, but impacting and just what I needed.
