5th Birthday Party!

My mom was out of town during the boys' birthday so she took them out for a lunch date before she left. They enjoyed Happy Meals, playtime & ice cream cones at McDonald's, got to pick something out from the Dollar Store, and came home and got to open up their present early.

As you can see they got busy right away with their new present, a set of wooden unit blocks. They were definitely a big hit! I may have to keep my eyes open for another set so we have more to build with.
We celebrated the boys' birthdays on Saturday May 7 (their actual birthday is on the 8th). We invited their preschool friends, cousins, and their friend David Sorenson. This year was the first time that we did two cakes. Both boys asked for their own cakes, Bryce wanted a train and Tyler wanted an airplane. It was definitely a work of love to complete TWO cakes in time for the party!As we waited for all the guests to arrive, the swingset was the main source of entertainment.
I think most of the kids would have been just fine if that's the only thing we'd done! We started off with "pin the pilot on the airplane". Then the kids lined up like a long train and did a scavenger hunt. They stayed in a train line for oh about 10 seconds, lol. Sounded like a good idea! After the scavenger hunt, the kids colored and learned how to make paper airplanes. Then we had a contest off the top of the "control tower"
We lost several airplanes over the neighbors fence and the kids just wanted to throw the planes over and over, not stand by where their plane landed, so we went with that instead!
Opening presents. The boys just got mobbed by all the kids who each wanted to "help" open the presents. We really appreciated that our guests brought presents for each boy. They really are individual, separate brothers, so the effort to see them that way with gift giving made a huge difference for the boys. It's much more fun for them to each get to open something.
After presents, we sang to each boy. Tyler is fascinated with airplanes and volcanoes, so it was fun to have both incorporated with his cake.
Bryce had his birthday candles blown out early by his little sister. She just couldn't understand why it wasn't her special day too! After re-lighting we sang to Bryce too. We filled his "coal car" with Reese's Pieces which was a fun surprise for the kids. He was pretty excited about the blue engine.
It was a low key party, but I think all the kids had a fun time! We were glad that it was over :)

I got to share Mother's Day with the two little guys that made me a mother. We had a great day with lots of visiting family members. The boys got to open one last present on their birthday and it was their special books from the last year. It's one of my favorite birthday traditions!
I can't believe my little boys are 5!
