Buying a home

Marc started his new position at Independence University on Monday, April 20th. He left the Sunday before, and I bawled as he pulled away. Fortunately, we had family dinner down at Jason and Jen's house, so it helped to take my mind off things.

The plan was for Marc to work Monday-Friday in Utah, and come back to Idaho for the weekends. I was a single Mom for most of the week, but most people didn't really know it, because they still saw Marc at church and at the soccer games, etc. I knew dinnertime would be my most stressful time of day. I tried to plan accordingly with very convenient, easy dinners that I didn't have to do much for. We had soccer practice Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings. Cubscouts on Wednesday, and soccer Games on Saturday. In between, we were packing, cleaning, end of school year activity stuff. We started our days at 6:15, and I rarely got to bed before Midnight. It mentally and physically exhausting.

As soon as Marc got to Utah, he started looking for homes. We had a Realtor there, Jason Blink, who was awesome to work with. After searching hundreds of houses online, it was nice to start seeing them in person, and made it really easy to eliminate quickly. Jason found one in Draper that he wanted to show Marc, we found one on Zillow that was in the same neighborhood and asked if we could see that one too. We liked the one that we saw on Zillow better. However, it was on the top of a mountain which made us nervous, and it was at the top of our price range. Yet, it had most everything we wanted and hadn't seen in a home yet (a nicer kitchen, backyard, and sense of privacy and similar square footage to our last home) Apparently, there was another person putting an offer in on the house, and we knew we needed to move quickly if it was the house we wanted. Marc asked to go back and look at it a second time, he took pictures of the parts of the house that weren't online so I could see them, and we decided to put an offer in on the house. The next day it was accepted and we were officially under contract as of April 25! These are a few pictures of the home that were posted online:

Our loan agent, David Kent was amazing! They were immediately processing our loan and communicating regularly where the process was at. Soon, the inspection was completed, the appraisal was ordered and we were ready to go as far as purchasing the home goes. When the contract was drawn up, nobody paid close attention to the dates, they just did 30 days out which was May 25. Turns out that was Memorial Day, so we were pushing a little to close by the 22nd which was a Friday, but we had no reason to doubt that we couldn't close by then.
